Sonic explorer Lenka Morávková

A meeting place for experimental music

The LEM festival is bringing artists like Mar Pareja, Sara Fontán and Sofia Faria to the city.

The LEM International Experimental Music Meeting is about to reach its 23rd edition. Organized by Gràcia Territori Sonor (GTS), the festival takes place in diverse venues such as Cinemes Texas, the Convent of San Agustín Civic Center, the Soda Acústic musical space and the GTS headquarters, among others. The festival started on 27 September a concert by Sergi Sirvent Trumpet Affairs, but the bulk of the programme is starting now and won’t finish until 27 October.

One of the aims of the festival is to bring together artists who, in principle, may seem to have little in common. This is the case of the performance scheduled for 4 October GTS headquarters, featuring Turkish artist Tuna Pass and Carlos Falanga from Argentina. Another example will be on Friday 12 October with Christian Dergarabedian and Lluís Surós improvising an encounter that may well prove to be unrepeatable. The poet and cultural agitator Eduard Escoffet and the musician Pablo Volt 'Pope' will present their shared project, Barba Corsini, on 5 October at the Convent of San Agustín, followed by the brilliantly inventive accordionist Zbigniew Chojnacki. Equally brilliant while improvising with her chosen instrument, in this case the violin, is Sara Fontán, who will perform on October 6 at Acústica Soda, where the Portuguese composer Sofia Faria, who has been known as Dullmea for two years now, will have already left her mark. Meanwhile, on Thursday 11 October, the Czech artist Lenka Morávková will be playing a completely original instrument designed by herself and made from Bohemian crystal at MACBA, while on 13 October saxophonist Jorge Martorell Loriente will be appearing at Nota 79.

Gemma Lloret, Jason Kolàr, Severine Beata and Mar Pareja are just some of the many other names that will be appearing in the festival. Check out the complete programme at the following link.
