'La piedra oscura' by Alberto Conejero at Teatre Lluire

The text, which has just been presented at the Centro Dramático Nacional, was inspired by the event s surrounding the death of Lorca.

Alberto Conejero is currently one of the most outstanding names in the world of Spanish drama. He has already won, for example, a Premio Ceres for the best playwright. He won it for this very text, La piedra oscura, which is based on the life of Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, a student who worked as the secretary of the Barraca company during the Second Spanish Republic and was, therefore, a close friend of Federico García Lorca. This vibrant theatrical work was built around his figure and raises a number of questions about how society has normalised certain things, especially the terrible events that took place in Spain during the civil war.

The story transports us to a room at a military hospital in Santander. Two men, two strangers, are forced to spend the harrowing night hours together – a countdown that may end in the death of one of them at dawn. During their hours of conversation, a terrible secret is revealed concerning the death of Federico García Lorca.

Argentinean director Pablo Messiez is directing this play, which recently debuted at the Centro Dramático Nacional and which can now be seen at the Gràcia venue of Teatre Lliure from the 7th to the 28th of February.
