"Just davant nostre. Altres cartografies del Rif", (Right in front of our eyes. Alternative maps of the Rif), in the MACBA
The exhibition can be seen from the 23rd of January to the 18th of May and focuses on artistic productions resulting from travels to the Rif mountain region of Morocco
The first of nine MACBA exhibitions programmed for 2014 completes the cycle initiated by the exhibition entitled Sous les yeux in the Kunsthalle Arts Centre in Mulhouse, France. The project, co-curated by Abdellah Karroum in conjunction with Soledad Gutiérrez, questions the concept of artistic object and the processes which are generated and produced by museum-related institutions.
Just davant nostre. Altres cartografies del Rif focuses on a specific geographical location – the Rif mountain region in the north of Morocco – in an attempt to provide the spectator with a means of understanding, contemplating and carrying out artistic productions. The exhibition hall in the MACBA facilities includes on-site productions and recent pieces, some of which have been specifically created for the exhibition, by artists such as Camille Henrot, Yto Barrada, Oriol Vilanova, Gabriella Ciancimino, Mustafa Akrim and Shezad Dawood.
The exhibition is the result of travels to the region in question organised by Karroum himself and its additional objective is to disseminate the cultural creativity of the area, which is either not yet available in Europe, or is limited to the legacy of the orientalist prism of colonialism.
