The festival, which finishes on 4 December, will feature some 30 concerts
Despite being active in music for some 50 years now, Jordi Sabatés has never played at the hallowed Jamboree jazz club. But that anomaly will be put right on Friday 28 October when he will be appearing there to kick off the 4th San Miguel Jamboree Jazz Club Festival. The pianist will be playing a double session, at 8pm and 10pm, during which he will present his latest album Maverick. Among the highlights of Sabatés’ career are his 1971 album based on Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, his work with Tete Montoliu on the cult album Vampyria, and his work with his formation Jarka.
This will be the first of the 30 plus concerts that make up the fourth edition of the festival, which is scheduled to run until 4 December. While the line-up is too extensive and star-studded to list here completely, upcoming shows feature Mariola Membrives (29 October), John Pizzarelli Trio (30 October), Dick Oatts Quartet (1 November), Joan Chamorro Nonet featuring Dick Oatts (2 November), Natsuko Sugao Group (3 November), and Becca Stevens (4 November). As curiosities it’s also interesting to note that during the festival the Jamboree club will host its 25,000th concert on Thursday 24 November, featuring a musical play directed by Quim Lecina, and that the closing concert on 4 December will feature the Catalan singer-songwriter Adrià Puntí accompanied by the Girona Jazz Project.
