International Women's Day at MNAC

The MNAC commemorates International Women's Day

From 2 to 10 March, the museum will celebrate a series of free activities related to the issue of gender.

This year, International Women's Day, which, as usual, will be commemorated on 8 March, will be very special, following, as it does, months of revindications by feminist groups and women as a whole, calling for equality, respect and equal wages. The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) has prepared a week-long series of free activities focussing on International Women's Day to mark the fact that, "the fight against discrimination against women in the field of artistic and intellectual creation and production is part of the lines of social involvement of the museum as a public entity with a certificate of Social Responsibility".

How will this commitment be embodied? On 2 March, a play titled La mujer (de), written and directed by Jorge Salinas, will be performed at MNAC. 8 March at the museum will be an open day for all women – on that day, only men will have to pay for admission, and you can request guided visits to the collections of the museum in terms of gender. On 10 March, the last act of the week will be a story-telling session at 5pm called Tales at the Museum for Rebellious Girls. In addition, on the MNAC website you can go on a virtual itinerary of the art in the museum that was created by women, or follow the itinerary The Evolution of Women.

You'll find more information on the MNAC website. All of the activities are free.
