The history of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion
This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the building’s reconstruction
The Mies van der Rohe Pavilion was one of the biggest attractions of the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. It was the seat of the German delegation and a symbol of the Modern Movement that was to have such a deep influence on future generations of architects. The pavilion was dismantled in 1930 and was only rebuilt in its original location 56 years later. The pavilion was reopened on 2 June 1986 and this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the exhibition that we would like to recommend today.
From 6 September to 6 October the pavilion is scheduled to host the exhibition The lives of the Pavilion. Intermittent account of an essential space, which details the construction of the original building and its reconstruction, underlining why it has become such an icon for people interested in architecture.
The exhibition also offers an insight into the activities that the foundation has carried out at the pavilion in recent years. Visitors to the pavilion can also take advantage of two open house days on 24 and 25 September with activities scheduled about the building.
