This staging features Mario Gas as director in a version by Eduardo Mendoza.
Barcelona's love affair with Harold Pinter is nothing new. In recent years we have seen Catalan language productions of plays like Old Times at Sala Beckett, No Man's Land at the TNC and Celebration and The Caretaker at Teatre Lliure, which will also be the scenario for this production of The Hothouse by the Teatro de la Abadía de Madrid in a version by Eduardo Mendoza, directed by Mario Gas.
The play tells the story of an institution, perhaps a sanatorium, whose director is forced to confront his subordinates following the reported murder of a patient, which results in mayhem. The play is a pitiless criticism of the workings of bureaucracy and marked the beginning of Pinter’s more overtly political phase.
Actors Tristán Ulloa and Gonzalo de Castro head a cast featuring a number of leading names on the Madrid scene including Javivi Gil Valle, Carlos Martos, Ricardo Moya and Isabelle Stoffel. This noteworthy production will be at Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc, for two weeks, from the 10th to the 12th of February.
