The Hanfris Quartet, in the MUHBA

The barbershop quartet will offer three performances on Saturday the 23rd of August as part of the Mas i Mas Festival

The Hanfris Quartet is a barbershop quartet, an a-capella vocal style that is typically North American. The origins of this genre, a style that is gaining popularity in northern European countries, go back to the barber shops of North America during the second half of the 19th century, when groups of Afro-American customers would harmonise popular and spiritual songs among themselves while waiting their turn at the chair.

Founded in 2009, the Hanfris Quartet consists of tenor Jordi Forcadell, baritone Juan Berrand, bass Adrià Sivilla and leader, Gener Salicrú. Winners of this year’s Spanish Barbershop Quartet Championship, which led to their classification for the world championships to be held in Pittsburgh next year, their repertoire consists of, among many others, barbershop quartet jazz standards such as “I can’t give you anything but love, baby”, pop-rock hits such as “Crazy little thing called love”, by Queen, or “Surfer Girl”, by the Beach Boys, and songs from films and musicals, such as “Tonight, Tonight”, from West Side Story, and “Make ‘Em Laugh”, from Singing in the Rain.
The Hanfris Quartet will perform in the entrance to the Saló del Tinell of the MUHBA on Saturday the 23rd of August at 6.30 pm, 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm. Tickets cost 7€ if purchased via the website, or 10€ at the door. For more information please consult the festival website.
