The Foto Colectania Foundation explores the enigma of the photograph

The collection, selected by French historian Michel Frizot, is on display until the 21st of May.

The Foto Colectania Foundation is bringing together some one hundred photographs that French historian Michel Frizot has collected over the decades. The images presented in this exhibition are mysterious in as much as their authors are unknown to the public. They are anonymous photographs and press photos from various decades that capture a diverse range of moments of visual or documentary interest, but are also interesting because of their very incompleteness.

As Frizot himself explains, this exhibition allows us to reach the conclusion that, “every photograph is an enigma.  And the latter, does not originate by an effect, a style or for a specific talent; quite the contrary, it is an essential element of the very same photographic act.  The enigma is born from the distance that exists between human perception and the photosensitive capture of the camera.  The result is an overflow of our senses."  Photography as an enigma is the key to this exhibition, which points to the distance that exists between human perception and the image captured by the camera, exploring  the great enigma of the frozen instant in the camera’s eye.
