Musical director Jordi Savall

First ever performance of Vivaldi’s 'Teuzzone' at the Liceu

This concert version has Jordi Savall as musical director.

Almost three hundred years after its premiere at the Teatro Arciducale de Màntua during the carnival season in 1719, the arias of Vivaldi’s Teuzzone can now be heard at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu in a concert version, though only on 24 and 25 February.

Jordi Savall is the musical director of this three act opera set in historical China. In the story, Prince Teuzzone is the late Emperor's legitimate heir, but there are plenty of people around plotting to oust him, including Zidiana, the late emperor’s widow, Governor Cino and General Sivenio. Rivalry between these conspirators leads to their downfall and the Prince’s cause eventually triumphs.

With a libretto by Apostolo Zeno, Teuzzone was Vivalidi’s twelfth opera. The concert version at the Liceu will feature Paolo Lopez as Teuzzone, Marta Fumagalli as Zidiana, Sonia Prina as Zelinda and Furio Zanasi in the role of Sivenio.

Additional information is available on the Gran Teatre del Liceu website.
