Festibity, a celebration of Information Technologies taking place in the Disseny Hub Barcelona

The 12th Festibity will take place on 8th May at 7.30pm and will be attended by Antoni Vives, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona and Felip Puig, Counsellor for Enterprise and Employment.

Festibity is an act that promotes the UPC and FIB Alumni at the Faculty of I.T in Barcelona. Support is also provided by the City of Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya. The gathering will be held at the Disseny Hub Barcelona which is a reference centre for events linked to creativity and innovation related to  design.

This year’s Festibity will talk about the role of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) as an engine for transformation, innovation and growth of the economy. Therefore, companies relying on ICT strategies to promote their internationalization objectives will also attend the event. The main attraction is Economist Clara Ponsati discussing the importance of positioning Barcelona on the international map and thus providing the starting point for discussion. Lucas Carné, Co-Founder of Privalia, Albert Giralt, CEO of Avinent and Hugo Puiggrós, CBDO Hartmann will also participate.

The event will begin with pre-conference networking led by Alfons Cornella, Founder and President of Infonomía and with the participation of Carlos Abarca, CIO of Banc Sabadell, Catalina Grimalt, CIO of Port de Barcelona and Jordi Castells, CIO Torres. Already in the final stretch, they will present the 12th Festibity awards: FIB, Honorary, the ICT initiative and FiberEmprenedors awards. Finally, the winners of the second edition of the FIB Apps 2014 Award will also be unveiled.

Catalan companies have exported 608% more than last year thus breaking all records. The main conclusions of the balance of exports and foreign investment in 2013 of Generalitat de Catalunya shows how the internationalization of Catalan companies has been placed as a strategic priority.

Also, Barcelona has established itself as the centre for knowledge, technology and creativity in Catalonia. Thus, by 2012 the city had 101,400 workers in creative industries, ie, 11% of those employed in the municipality, meanwhile the self-employed dedicated to this sector represents 20% of the total for the city.
