Festa Catalana

Festa Catalana: Catalan culture within everybody’s reach

Until the end of November, Avinguda de la Catedral will host a festival of traditional Catalan culture every Saturday morning

Avinguda de la Catedral is probably one of the best places in the city to witness displays of traditional Catalan culture. It’s where you’re most likely to come across people gathered in a circle dancing sardanes or, on Saturday mornings from spring to autumn, involved in one of the activities in the Festa Catalana, a cycle of demonstrations of popular culture that goes beyond the clichés that we are all familiar with.

From 11.30 on, every Saturday except for a couple of dates in September when the Mercè Festival is on, you’ll find there expressions of Catalan popular culture including parades of giants and dragon figures, traditional dances, human towers and get-togethers of lacemakers. These events attract people from all over Catalonia.
