Gràcia to become the centre for experimental music in Barcelona for another year

For a whole month, the Gràcia neighbourhood, together with Ciutat Vella, will host a new edition of LEM, a festival for experimental, avant-garde music.

More than 20 years ago, the neighbourhood of Gràcia saw the birth of a new and necessary kind of music festival, one that provided a showcase for experimental sounds including avant-garde rock and jazz and non-mainstream electronic music. An initiative by Gràcia Territori Sonor, the LEM Festival has grown steadily over the years while never losing its original identity. Now it's back and aims to fill venues like the MACBA auditorium and the Convent of Sant Agusti with complex, adventurous new sounds.

The main focus of the action in Gràcia will be at Centre Cívic La Sedeta, along with venues like Almo2bar, where, on 14 October, one of the big names on the roster, the UK experimental rock band The Legendary Pink Dots, is set to play a concert. Other groups on the programme of the festival, which is set to run from 28 September to 4 November, include Mexican marimba specialist Aldo Aranda, who will play the opening show at Cinemes Texas, Les Mutants Maha, Deriva Ensemble, Àgape, Nad Spiro, Big OK, Adriana Petit, Inire, and Warp Trio.

Additional information is available at the LEM website.
