"The exhibitions”, closes the celebration of 50 years of the Museu Picasso

The third and final commemorative exhibition offers a retrospective on the temporary exhibitions held in the museum over the years and can be seen up until the 9th of March

From the 16th of January to the 9th of March, the Museu Picasso will be hosting the third and final exhibition in commemoration of the museum’s 50 year history. The exhibition, entitled The exhibitions, offers a retrospective on the temporary exhibitions that the museum has held over the course of its history.

Since opening its doors on the 9th of March, 1963, the first monographic museum dedicated to Picasso has been the neurological centre for all those interested in the work of the Malaga-born artist who moved to Barcelona in 1895. In honour of its 50 years of history, the museum programmed a series of three exhibitions beginning on the 9th of March, 2013. The two which have been celebrated up until now have focussed on the origins of the museum and the progressive citizens’ participation in and commitment to the centre.

The third exhibition in the series is a retrospective on the work of Picasso, the museum’s members, and the diverse contemporary artists who have exhibited in the museum over the years. It is also an opportunity for visitors to acquaint themselves with other aspects of the museum’s history, the history of the city and its inhabitants and the cultural and social changes that have affected Barcelona in the last 50 years, all of which are reflected in the presentation of the pieces.
