The optical illusions and abstraction of Sarah Margnetti at Bombon Projects

The gallery is hosting the first individual exhibition by this Swiss artist in Catalonia.

Born in Monthey, Switzerland in 1983 and living and working in both Brussels and Lausanne, Sarah Margnetti is a master of the trompe l'oeil technique and her style combines optical illusions and abstract motifs. You’ll find ample evidence of all of this in the exhibition Flowers don’t pick themselves at the Bombon Projects gallery. This is Margnetti's first individual exhibition in Catalonia and can be seen until 22 December.

All the works on display are recent include two mural paintings created specifically for this exhibition space. Visitors will notice the preponderance of the colour yellow and the presence of curtains as a motif of separation and concealment, together with an exploration of the fragmentation of the female body and the sensorial and cultural potential of certain materials.    At the same time, Margnetti’s work is not lacking in humour – search for the female breast hidden among the curtain lapels in Rideaux Bonne-Femme (2018) in an allusion to Marcel Duchamp’s Prière de Toucher.

The Bombon Projects Gallery is located at number 45 Carrer de Trafalgar. Additional information on the exhibition can be found at the following link.
