'Room' at the MNAC
An installation by Archivo F.X. in the museum rooms dedicated to the Spanish Civil War.
The National Museum of Art of Catalonia will exhibit works produced during the Civil War by the artist Pedro G. Romero based on Psychotechnical Checas, the unsettling detention cells designed by the Republican artist Alphonse Laurencic and located in churches in Carrer Vallmajor and Carrer Saragossa in Barcelona and in the convent of Santa Úrsula in Valencia from 1937 to 1939. This installation, called Room, is part of the FX Archive, a project that Pedro G. Romero has been working on since 1999 and which tackles the themes of iconoclasm, desecration and blasphemy in relation to radical practices in modern and contemporary art and aesthetics. The exhibition is made up of documentary material, photographs, films and a bibliography that explains the function and meaning of these constructions.
The exhibition Room can be visited from 15 December to 3 February at the National Museum of Art of Catalonia. It is the result of a collaboration between three institutions that will host it at different times: the CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in the Community of Madrid, the La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia and the Museum National Art of Catalonia.
