An exhibition focusing on 1714, in the Santa Maria del Pi basilica

Pi, a community under siege. 1713-1714, is divided into three sections, the siege, the defeat and the subsequent repression

Like other religious communities in Barcelona, the parish of Santa Maria del Pi played a very active role during the 1713 to 1714 siege. To commemorate the event, and as part of the tercentenary celebrations, the crypt of the Santa Maria del Pi basilica is hosting an exhibition entitled El Pi, una comunitat assetjada. 1713-1714 (Pi, a community under siege. 1713-1714).

The exhibition is divided into three sections (the siege, the defeat and the subsequent repression) and includes extensive documentation which the basilica archives have preserved since the era in question and most of which has not been previously available to the public. The exhibition, then, reveals the Barcelona of three hundred years ago from the perspective of the role played by the basilica (one of the few in the city and the most representative) and offers a clear insight into the events of the period and their consequences.

The exhibition opened in November and will remain open for a period of one year. In addition to the exhibition, visitors may appreciate the architecture of the crypt of the basilica, a common site for exhibitions of this type. On occasion the exhibition will be accompanied by conferences and guided tours.
