Marilyn Monroe, one of the many iconic figures portrayed by Warhol

An exhibition at CaixaForum showcases the artistic evolution of Andy Warhol

The exhibition begins on 14 September and will run until the end of the year.

One of the best known and most influential artists of the second half of the 20th century, Andy Warhol is the focus of a new exhibition that will open at CaixaForum Barcelona on 14 September. Warhol. L'art mecànic aims to reflect Warhol's creative development from his first steps as graphic designer to his death and consecration as the maximum exponent of pop art.

Warhol (Pittsburgh 1928 – New York 1987) burst onto the art scene in the 1960s with works that were based on the reconfiguration of products of mass consumption, such as his famous Campbell's soup cans, and on the reworking of images of popular figures including Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. The exhibition, which will run until the end of the year, places special emphasis on how Warhol's work reflected the cult of the commercial object that characterised the industrial age. In his work he employed techniques such as silkscreen printing and oxidization and he also made extensive use of video.

This exhibition is therefore an excellent opportunity to review some of Warhol's best known artworks and explore his working methods. It will be accompanied by a series of complementary activities that serve to enrich the visitors' experience, including talks, guided visits and family visits.
