Evenings of jazz amid Gaudí's chimneys

Summer evenings on the rooftop terrace of La Pedrera are back from 9 June.

Night-time, live jazz and Gaudí come together under the evening skies of Barcelona on the rooftop of one of the architect's most iconic buildings: La Pedrera, which is also known as Casa Milà. A total of 14 outfits will be performing double sessions from 9 June to 9 September.

This year's Summer Nights cycle features both young local talent and internationally renowned names. The concerts will begin with vocalist Susana Sheiman and director and arranger Duccio Bertini with A day in Barcelona, and will continue with Albert Bover & Horacio Fumero (16 and 17 June), Smack Dab (23 and 24 June) and The Black Barbies (30 June and 1 July).

The duet made up of Minorcan pianist Marco Mezquida and Barcelona trumpet player Fèlix Rossy will be playing on 7 and 8 July, while a week later trumpet player Pol Omedes will be presenting his album Mallorca. Underpool 5 (on 21 and 22 July) and José Carra Verso (28 and 29 July) will round off the performances scheduled for July.

August continues unflaggingly with singer Mayte Alguacil, who will be presenting new material on 4 and 5 August together with Jaume Llombart on guitar, Pedro Campos on bass and Enrique Oliver on saxophone. Guillem Arnedo Band & Celeste Alías will be accompanied by the prestigious pianist Michael Kanan for their concerts on 11 and 12 August, while at the weekend, it will be time for the Catalan septet Outerspace to perform on the rooftop terrace. August will finish with performances by a quartet of young Barcelona musicians led by bassist Martín Leiton.

Sofia Ribeiro will be coming from the other side of the peninsula to bring her jazz to Casa Milà on 1 and 2 September, and the cycle will come to an end with the quartet led by Cuban percussionist Michael Olivera on 8 and 9 September.

Admission includes both the chance to enjoy an agreeable evening in a unique setting with great views and music and a visit to Espai Gaudí, a visual tour of the work of a singular architectural talent, followed by a complementary drink on the terrace.
