Escala a Barcelona (Layover in Barcelona): a festival of maritime culture at Port Vell

This maritime-themed event will take place from the 18th to the 20th of March

As a city that is characterised by its strong maritime culture, Barcelona just had to have a festival devoted to the sea. That’s why the city’s first Escala a Barcelona festival of maritime culture. The aim of the festival is to promote the city’s connections to the sea and its rich and varied maritime heritage. To celebrate this event, Barcelona’s port will see the arrival of lots of traditional vessels and large sailing boats who will be doing a layover in the city.


Everyone who wants can head for the Moll Bosch i Alsina quayside to enjoy the experience. There you’ll find a variety of family-oriented activities, demonstrations of maritime trades and traditions, performances, concerts, and even a gastronomic section where you can try some of the delicious dishes associated with the sea.

 

This event aims to become a standing date on the city’s calendar and an excuse for its citizens to take back an area – the old port – that was such an important meeting place for Barcelona and its rich maritime culture. It promises to be a participatory event designed for citizens of all ages, and of special interest to families.
