“Enric Miralles amb el temps"

An exhibition examining the use of time as a construction material throughout the career of the Barcelona-born architect

From the 22nd of November to the 31st of May, 2014, the Enric Miralles Foundation will host an exhibition dealing with how the architect, who died before his time in the year 2000, used time as an element of construction. Curated by Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, Enric Miralles amb el temps (Enric Miralles and the passage of time) includes 12 pieces which, in one way or another, attempt to explore this relationship.

Some of the projects on display were intentionally ephemeral, such as the Ines-table (Uns-table) table, designed especially for the exhibition in Grenoble, or the partitions designed for the Prsopa stand in Paris. Others reveal a projection that extends through time, such as the Mercado de Santa Caterina, the construction of which can be appreciated by means of a slide show conceived by the EMBT studio, or Heaven, in the Tateyama Museum Park, Japan, an installation of metallic pieces which appear to suspend time within the immensity of space, and which can now be seen for the first time in this country.

All the works in the exhibition, with the exception of the Igualada Cemetery, were joint projects implemented by Enric Miralles, Benedetta Tagliabue and the EMBT studio.

On Wednesday the 27th of November, pianist Roberto Cacciapaglia will interpret fragments of the opera Mai per atzar, which was performed during the inauguration of the EMBT studio in 2011 under the piece which Miralles made for the occasion and which still hangs in the courtyard.
