Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra in concert in Barcelona

The concert is part of the activities scheduled by the Suite Festival.

One of his best-known facets is that of a filmmaker with an identity that is both distinctive and original. His other facet is also well known: music. We’re speaking about the Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica, who’s set to come to Barcelona accompanied by his group, The No Smoking Orchestra. His aim is clear: get the audience at Gran Teatre del Liceu to go crazy for his mixture of Balkan folk music and frenetic rhythms.

The concert will also serve to relive some of the highlights of his films in concert format including Black Cat, White Cat, Life Is a Miracle, and Time of the Gypsies. All of these soundtracks take on a festive air when played in a live setting that combines equal measures of madness and unrestrained abandon, the very particular roots of Balkan music and all of his iconoclastic and rock rebel style. It’s a mixture that encompasses other European rhythms like the polka and even Arab sounds. It promises to be a cultural mix that the audience is invited to join in with and enjoy.
