"Els guapos són els raros" (The good-looking ones are the weird ones), in the Teatre Gaudí

The play by Enric Cambray offers an imaginative reflection on juvenile success and failure and can be seen until the 30th of June

Toni (David Anguera), Bernat (Martí Salvat) and Marcel (Ricard Farré), are three losers, three nerds who are about to finish school after suffering years of humiliations and taunts at the hands of the cool guys in their class. In order to put an end to the situation they decide to challenge the others to an interpretive duel in front of the entire school on graduation day. If they win, it will be their “salvation”. If they lose, they will remain losers forever and the humiliations will continue.

Taking its title from the first record of the successful band Manel, Els guapos són els raros  is an acidic, imaginative comedy which reflects on the way in which television and important media events have changed the way in which young people perceive success and failure. The play is written and directed by Enric Cambray, who also acts, and is based on what he defines as fast-fame.

The script for the play, which is promoted by a video clip featuring The Mamzelles, contains a number of references to the songs of Manel, who were very much in favour of the idea. The performance relies heavily on the presence of the public, who are specifically asked not to turn off their mobile phones, as it seems that at some point they will be required to use them...
