Eleventh BCNegra literary festival
The literary event will be held from 28 January to 6 February at various venues across the city and will see the participation of over 80 authors.
BCNegra celebrates its eleventh year with a very complete programme that includes the participation of more than 80 noir and crime literature authors.
From Thursday 28 January, Barcelona, UNESCO City of Literature, will become the capital of noir literature with a programme that includes theatre, radio, photography, cinema, tributes, round tables, discussions, literary prizes, film cycles and book clubs.
The opening event of the ceremony organised by Paco Camarasa will be on Thursday 28 January at 8.00 pm. The RBA Auditorium will host the Crims de Tinta awards, a prize that after six editions has become established as an essential benchmark on the noir/crime literature scene in Catalan.
This year, theatre will play a major role at BCNegra with Port Arthur, a theatrical docuthriller created by playwright and director Jordi Casanovas, which can be seen at just seven performances at the Fàbrica Moritz, from 29 January to 11 February.
On Friday 29 January, in the We See Them But We Don't Read Them round table, the festival will be highlighting the part played by professional photographers and will be remembering photojournalists Paco Elvira and José Couso.
On Sunday 31 January, the Oval Room at the MNAC will be hosting The Evil Geniuses, a discussion with Paco Camarasa and film critic Josep Maria Bunyol, while Monday 1 February sees the discussion on Crimes Against Humanity between Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa and Antonio G. Iturbe at the Conservatori del Liceu auditorium.
BCNegra will also be remembering journalist Xavier Vinader and writers Rafael Chirbes and William McIlvanney with three round tables.
Time of Hopes, Time of Dreams will be the name of the round table devoted to new talents, which will comprise Damià del Clot, Carmen Conde, Edmundo Díaz Conde, Gema García-Teresa and Elena Torres, and chaired by the winner of the L'H Confidencial 2014 award, Nacho Cabana.
Three great French noir/crime writers will be at the festival: Pierre Lamaitre, who will be in conversation with journalist and writer Álvaro Colomer, and Michel Bussi and Bernard Minier, who will be chaired by journalist Toni Marín. In addition, the Quais du Polar festival, one of the major events in the noir/crime literary calendar in Europe, will be this year's accomplice of BCNegra: there will be a draw of 10 trips to Lyon among participants to attend the next festival in France.
On 3 February, there will be a round table on violence against women entitled They Don't Die, They Are Murdered. We Want Them Alive, while the afternoon of Thursday 4 February will see the awarding Eleventh Pepe Carvalho Prize to North American writer Donna Leon, creator of Commissario Guido Brunetti, in recognition of her career. The following day, participants will be able to see the writer at Sala BARTS, where she will be taking part in the discussion Venice, City or Set, which will be streamed on the BCNegra and Barcelona Culture websites.
