Joan Chamorro and Rita Payés

Elegant jazz and blues at Milano

This well-known cocktail bar is embarking on the 12th edition of its jazz and blues festival which will feature Joan Chamorro and Rita Payés, among others

Milano is an establishment that we associate with cocktails, long evenings spent in good company, a velvet-lined bar and the satisfaction of a good drink slipping down the throat, but one a year this well-known cocktail bar on Ronda Universitat plays host to a festival that features  some of Barcelona’s finest and most elegant jazz and blues music. This year is the festival’s 12th edition and you should be aware that when you go there for a drink from 9 to 30 April the musicians will be competing in skills with the barmen who mix the cocktails.

The first concert is scheduled for next Monday and features a tribute by the Amadeu Cases Band to legendary bluesman B.B. King with a performance of his most important songs with the support of a horn section. Wednesday sees a performance by The Big Jamboree R&B, a band devoted to reviving 1940s style jump blues, a forerunner of rock and roll, while Thursday sees the cycle’s big concert featuring Joan Chamorro and Rita Payés – the present and future of jazz in Barcelona – who are playing together again two years after the release of their debut album. The programme holds much more and the next concert we want to highlight are scheduled for 21 April, with the Joan Pau Cumellas Band, and 30 April with soul band Koko Jeans & The Tonics.
