Diada Castellera al Born

El Born Centre Cultural to celebrate National Day of Catalonia with a display of ‘castellers’

Participating groups include Capgrossos de Mataró, Castellers de Vilafranca and Colla Castellera Jove de Barcelona

The 11th of September is when Catalonia commemorates the country’s defeat during the War of the Spanish Succession and the subsequent loss of its traditional rights and this year the National Day of Catalonia falls on a Sunday. Apart from the institutional acts that are scheduled, there will be a number of events reflecting Catalan culture on Sunday, and one of the most interesting is a display of castellers (groups that build human towers) at Born Centre Cultural beginning at 11.30am.

The Born site, which is dedicated to keeping alive the memory of the events in Barcelona in 1714, is the ideal place for this display of a traditional activity that many see as a manifestation of the collective capacity for resistance and overcoming challenges of the Catalan people. Among the groups taking part are Capgrossos de Mataró, Castellers de Vilafranca and Colla Castellera Jove de Barcelona.
