Eight days of tango

Barcelona’s 6th annual Gardel Buenos Aires Festival is set to begin on 15 July with a concert featuring Sandra Rehder and Casino Central

This festival aims to promote both the tango and to strengthen the cultural ties that exists between Barcelona and Buenos Aires, while also serving to keep alive the memory of Carlos Gardel. The Festival Barcelona Gardel Buenos Aires is celebrating its 6th annual edition this year and will take place in diverse venues in the city from 15 to 22 July.

For seven consecutive days tango will make its presence felt in various ways. For example, the opening concert will see Sandra Rehder and Casino Central on stage at Casino de Barcelona at 9pm on Friday 15 July. Two days later, the casino will also be the venue, this time for an exhibition of dancing. Furthermore, free tango dancing lessons will be given at El Corte Inglés in Portal de l'Àngel on 19 and 20 July. One of the highlight’s of this year’s edition will be the Night of Tango that is scheduled to take place within the framework of the Grec 2016 Festival de Barcelona and which will feature Quinteto Real, a musical formation that was formed in 1960 who will be performing classics of the genre in the company of the singer Marcelo Rey and a dance couple made up of Pilar Álvarez and Claudio Hoffman. The Festival is set to close on Friday 22 July with a concert by Sexteto Guardiola at Sala Sandaru at 8.30pm.
