The last documentary of the year travels to China

‘Last Days in Shibati’ by the French director Hendrick Dusollier depicts the disappearance of traditional neighbourhoods in the Chinese city of Chongqing in the name of development.

The rapid economic development of China in recent years has had powerful repercussions at the social and urban level, and many of the country’s cities are being transformed at a dizzying rate. Chongqing is an example of that process. The residents of one of its traditional neighbourhoods, Shibati, are being forced to leave because, in a few days, everything they know, including its narrow streets and their humble homes, will become nothing more than a memory. This reality is depicted in ‘Last Days in Shibati’ by Hendrick Dusollier, a film that was chosen by Docs Barcelona to be screened in different venues in Barcelona in December. The film will be screened in original version with Catalan and Spanish subtitles.

Cinemes Girona will host the earliest screening of Last Days in Shibati at 7.30pm on Tuesday 4 December. Later on you will be able to catch the film at the Biblioteca Esquerra de l'Eixample - Agustí Centelles (12 December), Auditori de Sant Martí (13 December), Teatre de Sarrià (16 and 27 December), Centre Cívic Torre Llobeta (18 December), Casa Elizalde (18 December) and Centre Cívic Fort Pienc (20 December). The documentary garnered good reviews and several awards at a number of festivals following its premiere last year.
