DocsBarcelona

DocsBarcelona: a wealth of documentary films

For ten days, from 16 to 27 May, we can enjoy a generous and daring selection of new documentaries that open our eyes to other realities.

How can we obtain a more comprehensive vision of the reality of our world? What are the stories that nobody tells us? What must be saved and remembered about the present and the past? Documentary cinema has always had a vocation to get to the bottom of things, to explain what nobody else dares to share. For that reason, the DocsBarcelona Festival refers to itself as a festival of restless visions, but also as an oasis of freedom, showcasing heterodox and original voices that show us different visions of the world. This year, the usual festival venues - Cinemes Aribau, the CCCB Theatre and Altaïr bookshop – will host the screening of dozens of documentaries over the course of ten frenetic days from 16 to 27 May.

And what stories is DocsBarcelona going to bring to us this year? In Panorama, the official section, for example, we can see the story of the dancer Bobbi Jene, who decides to restart her career for love, and we can learn about Dolphin Man, the first diver to descend a hundred metres under the sea without the aid of oxygen. Hasta mañana si dios quiere depicts a community of nuns whose convent is about to close, Petitet is a biographical documentary on the king of rumba, while The Cleaners enters the dark world of digital cleaning on the internet. Meanwhile in the official Latitude section, we can see a documentary about the humourist Eugenio, and Stealing Rodin is the story of the robbery of a statue by Rodin from an exhibition in Chile. But these are just a few of the films on offer in the festival: DocsBarcelona is full of surprises.
