Palau Baró de Quadras

A different kind of visit to Palau Baró de Quadres

On 29 May you can visit a jewel of Catalan modernism in the company of actors who will take you back to the beginning of the 20th century

Palau Baró de Quadres is somewhat out of the classical Catalan modernism routes. It’s located, though one could almost say hidden away, in Passeig de Gràcia and is currently the HQ of the Institut Ramon Llull, which makes seeing the inside more difficult since visiting times are restricted and must be arranged beforehand. But if you’re lucky enough to get in you’ll find a treasure of Catalan modernism, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch for Manuel de Quadras i Feliu, one of the most powerful industrialists in 19th century Catalonia, with rich ornamentation Muslim-style ceramics and a truly majestic stairway.

Palau Baró de Quadres can be visited on Wednesday and Saturday morning. But on one Friday per month you can visit it in a different way: on a dramatised visit featuring two period-dressed actresses, wearing clothes lent by the Modernisme Museum, who play the parts of a governess and a cook and will tell you all of the family and architectural secrets of this charismatic construction.

The next visit is scheduled for 19 May and the following one will be on 16 June. Additional information is available on the Cases Singulars website.
