Debut performance of “1984” in the Almeria Teatre

The play is based on the well-known homonymous novel by George Orwell and can be seen from the 13th of December to the 12th of January

On the 13th of December, the Almeria Teatre will present the stage debut of 1984, an adaptation by Michael Gene Sullivan of the novel by George Orwell. The play is directed by Victor Álvaro and the script, translated into Catalan by author Lluís-Anton Baulenas, is a fiercely provocative adaptation of one of the most prophetic works of literature of the last century.

1984 is set in a dystopian reality in a totalitarian world where the citizens live under the absolute control of their leaders. The protagonist is Winston Smith, a common man who, under the omnipresent eye of Big Brother, has been arrested by the state police as a result of his thoughts pertaining to love and freedom in a world full of distrust and violence. While held prisoner he is tortured and obliged to confess his intentions.

The play, which can be seen until the 12th of January, stars Andreu Rifé, Lluís Canet, Savina Figueras, Tono Saló, Frank Capdet and Carles Canut.
