Workshops and concerts will fill the Fàbrica Fabra i Coats arts centre with rumba beats on Sunday 4 December
The 8th annual edition of the Diada de la Rumba (Catalan Rumba Day) will be held on 4 December and this year it’s bigger and better than ever. In 2015, Catalan Rumba was proclaimed to be an example of the Cultural Heritage of Catalonia by the Generalitat government and proceedings have started to apply for UNESCO Intangible Heritage status, so the celebration at Fàbrica Fabra i Coats in Sant Andreu is likely to be a bigger draw than ever. Things will get started at 10am and during the morning there will be a succession of events like dancing, music, a street market, activities for kids and a hot chocolate feast. There will also be the presentation of a disc that brings together all of the songs released by El Noy, a singer who died in 2010, and an exhibition titled Great Names of Catalan Rumba. The afternoon will be the time for concerts, with hours of non-stop live music by eleven singers and groups including Peret Reyes, Morosito, La República Rumbera, Rumba Tarumba, Rumba Que Derrumba, Bananna Beach, Tupica, Sandunguera, Alma de Boquerón, Son de la Rambla and Set de Rumba.
The organisers of the event present it as a “gateway” to the genre and “a key event for both the Rumba scene and for the world of Catalan culture”. All of these events and activities are free of charge.
