David Bowie Is

David Bowie from all possible angles

Barcelona Design Museum’s exhibition of Bowie memorabilia will be complemented over the coming weeks with talks, films screenings and a symphony concert at the Auditori.

The exhibition ‘David Bowie Is’ opened at Barcelona’s Design Museum in May and will be open for visits until 15 October. It’s garnering rave reviews from critics and visitors alike, so don’t miss the chance to see it. And if you have seen it and have been left wanting more then take note of the complementary activities set to take place around the exhibition including a cycle of talks, an extensive sample of Bowie’s film work, a photographic exhibition and a symphony concert at the Auditori.

The most exclusive event may well be the ‘Bowie Symphonic’ concert, which will take place in Sala 1 of the Auditori concert hall on 13 July. The OBC orchestra, conducted by Evan Zyporin, will offer a symphonic take on Bowie’s “Blackstar” in a version written for 65 musicians in the form of a concert for viola, the instrument that best replicates the timbres of the human voice. The soloist will be Maya Beiser. Another attraction in the schedule is the Bowie Talks, which include musings on ‘David Bowie is Cultural Icon’ (5 July), ‘David Bowie is Fashion’ (12 July), ‘David Bowie is Economics’ (18 July), ‘David Bowie is Branding’ (19 July), ‘David Bowie is Literature’ (20 July) and ‘David Bowie is on Screen’ (26 July). Furthermore, the Auditorium of the Barcelona Design Museum is set to host the screening of practically the complete Bowie film oeuvre every Thursday from 13 July to 24 August. And, if you want even more of Bowie, be sure to check out the photographic exhibitions featuring concert images at the museum’s library.
