From the 4th to the 28th of April, an “almost” romantic comedy by Octavi Egea
Jo and Bo are two solitary people who live beside each other in a building that faces the skyscrapers of New York. He is bisexual playwright who falls in love all too easily, while she is a hair stylist who has never been lucky in love. Both of their apartment windows give easy access to the rooftop, which is where they meet and become friends with two conditions: not to fall in love with one another and, one day, to go to the top of the Empire State Building, which they can easily see from the roof. The skyscraper, then, becomes a symbol of the hopes and dreams that both of them have and, though they themselves have no idea to what extent, share.
The two characters in this quasi-romantic comedy are played by Marc Homs and Míriam Tortosa. Davant l'Empire (in front of the Empire) is a play in a classical form written by Octavi Egea in 1997 and the winner of the Premi Ignasi Iglésias, awarded by the Institut del Teatre, the same year.
This version, by the Companyia Teatre Empíric, is directed by Mónica Aybar and was awarded the Premio Popular at the 17th Mostra de Teatre de Barcelona held in the Teatre del Raval last October. During the next four weeks the play can be seen in the very same theatre.
