A family in breakdown, shattered by a recent death. A father who goes to live with his son for an unspecified length of time, though their relationship is at breaking point and anything could make it snap. That’s the background to Courage to Kill, which can be seen at the Sala Petita at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya in October. The play is by Swedish writer Lars Norén, and has been translated into Catalan by Joan Casas and Carolina Moreno in a version directed by Magda Puyo. The play features only three characters, played by Nao Albet, Manel Barceló and Maria Rodríguez.
Born in Stockholm in 1944, Lars Norén is a leading European playwright whose work explores the darkest aspects of human relations in contemporary society. As well as plays, he has written poetry and for radio and television, as well as directing Dramaten, the best-known theatre in Stockholm.
Courage to Kill can be seen at TNC until 30 October.
