The Twilight of the Gods premieres on the 28th of February.
With Götterdämmerung (The Twilight of the Gods), German composer Richard Wagner brought to a conclusion his most universal work. The final instalment of the saga of the Nibelungs is set to be performed at the Liceu opera house, which has already hosted the first two parts. This is quite an event for opera fans and for anyone who wishes to learn more about opera through one of its best known creations.
The works are part of a production from Cologne with Robert Carsen as stage director and scenery and costumes by Patrick Kinmonth, while Josep Pons is responsible for the music. Among the singers who make up the cast of this last part of the trilogy, we can find the names of Lance Ryan, Samuel Youn, Hans Peter König Oskar Hillebrandt and Irene Theorin, among others.
In this part we will see how the Norns, who spin the threads of destiny, discover that Siegfried’s is mysteriously broken. Siegfried has to bid farewell to Brünnhilde and gives her the Ring before setting off in search of adventures. His journey ends tragically with the waters of the Rhine drowning the scene and the Maidens of the Rhine recovering the famous Ring.
