As part of the Summer in the City Cycle programme, the Barcelona Municipal Band will be offering a free concert at Plaça del Rei at 8.30pm on Friday 15 July. Conducting will be the band’s own conductor, Salvador Brotons and the repertoire chosen includes works by Beethoven, Grieg, Manuel Oltra, Elisenda Fàbregas, and Manuel de Falla’s El amor brujo.

La Banda Municipal de Barcelona Municipal Band was founded in 1886 and has been the resident band at Auditori de Barcelona since 2007, offering a regular schedule of performances. Salvador Brotons has been the band’s principal conductor since 2008. The concert at Plaça del Rei is not the only one that the band will be performing within the programme of the Summer Cycle: on 29 July they will be playing a very different type of music at Hospital de Sant Pau under the title The Golden Years of Swing. On this occasion, Henrie Adams, the assistant conductor, will be leading the formation.
