“Companys 75. A Life Force”

Today saw the presentation of the series of events in tribute to Lluís Companys organised by Barcelona City Council to commemorate the 75th anniversary of his death by firing squad.

The Born Cultural Centre will be hosting the celebratory and institutional event, which, entitled Companys 75. A Life Force, will pay tribute to the life of Lluís Companys, President of the Catalan Government and Councillor with Barcelona City Council, on the 75th anniversary of his death by firing squad.

Companys 75. A Life Force will take place on 14 October at 8 pm and will feature the participation of Jaume Asens, Josep Cruanyes, Joan B. Culla, Xavier Domènech, José Luis Martín Ramos, August Gil Matamala, Pep Riera, Anna Sallés and Joan Tardà. There will be music performances by Lídia Pujol with Mohamed Bout and Mohamed Soulimane, Biel Majoral, Borja Penalba and Francesc Anyó, Dani Flaco and Joan Isaac, Pi de la Serra and Carme Canela, Pere Martínez and Gemma Humet, under the music direction of Joan Díaz.

The acts to mark the commemoration will include the lecture entitled “A People's Advocate in the Government of the City. Lluís Companys 1917-1920”, given by Professor José Luis Martín Ramos, Chair in Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, on 8 October at the Saló de Cròniques [Hall of Chronicles] in City Hall.

From 6 October, the Born Cultural Centre is staging the exhibition entitled Portrait of Companys. The Image of a President (1931-1940), a retrospective already shown in 2012 and 2013 at the Castell de Montjuïc. Created from the municipal graphic collection on Lluís Companys, the exhibition includes images by the most acclaimed Catalan photo-journalists of the first half of the twentieth century.

How to attend Companys 75. A Life Force

Tickets to attend this free event as an audience member (space is limited) may be requested in two ways:

On the internet, by completing the registration form that will be available from 2 October on the Barcelona Culture website and on the Born Cultural Centre website. Once you have registered, you will receive an identifier and the instruction to collect your ticket at Tiquet Rambles (La Rambla, 99).

In person, from 2 to 13 October, you can visit Tiquet Rambles and ask for a ticket to the event (one per person) between 10 am and 8 pm, while they last.
