The mass will be performed in two sessions on 13 and 14 December, preceded by a general rehearsal on 12 December.
The Orchestra of the University of Barcelona (OUB), the Choir of the University of Barcelona, and the Schola Cantorum Universitaria Barcinonensis (SCUB) will join talents in a Christmas Concert that will be held in the Paranymph of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona (UB). In fact, we are actually talking about two concerts with the same programme on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 December, preceded by a general rehearsal on Wednesday 12 December. All three performances will begin at 8pm though the doors to the auditorium will open half an hour before that. Admission is free but you must reserve in advance either at website ub.edu/cultura or at the UB Store in the Historical Building. Tickets will be available from Monday 10 December on a first come first served basis.
The Saint Cecilia Mass in G major was given as a commission to Charles Gounod (1818-1893) by the Parisian Association of Musical Artists and premiered on the feast day of the patron saint of music at the church of Saint-Eustache-des-Halles on 29 November 1855. The concerts at the UB, which are part of the university’s XXXII Music Cycle, will feature the soprano Marta Arbonés, tenor César Cortés and baritone Lluís Sintes. Carles Gumí will be conducting the OUB and the SCUB, while Jordi-Lluís Rigol will conduct the University Choir.
