Celebrating the Chinese New Year

On 17 February, in collaboration with Barcelona's extensive Chinese community, the city will celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Dog.

As you all know, for the Chinese the new year doesn't begin on 1 January but the first day of the new moon, which means mid-February this year. This auspicious occasion is very important to the more than 19,000 Chinese people who live in Barcelona, who would love it if you also took part in the celebrations on 17 February.

On the morning of that day, the celebrations will begin with a series of festive activities in collaboration with a large group of volunteers and cultural associations, among them Confucio BCN and Casa Asia, who work together to make this day special. The main acts of the day will take place around Arc de Triomf and Estació del Nord. At 11.30am there will be a colourful cavalcade, followed, from 12.30pm to 2pm by a show on a stage located on Passeig Lluís Companys, which will finish with pyrotechnics.
