Cesc Gay makes his theatrical debut with “Els veïns de dalt”

The film maker, noted for “V.O.S.” and “A Gun in Each Hand”, has written and directed a comedy that offers a reflection on life as a couple and sexuality and which can be seen in the Teatre Romea from the 19th of March to the 17th of May

From the 19th of March to the 17th of May the Teatre Romea is hosting Els veïns de dalt (The Upstairs Neighbours), a comedy with which film maker Cesc Gay makes his debut as playwright and stage director. The play stars Pere Arquillué, Àgata Roca, Nora Navas and Jordi Rico and deals with the subjects of life as a couple and sexuality through the eyes of two couples who live in the same building, using irony to approach issues common to Gay’s work such as cohabitation, courage, love and appearances.

Els veïns de dalt begins at the moment when Anna and Juli invite their neighbours, Laura and Salva, to dinner and to show them their apartment in an effort to repay them for their help when they moved into the building. As the evening progresses Anna and Juli begin to discover the curious sexual tendencies of their neighbours, a fact that leads them to re-examine their own monotonous, reproachful relationship.

As a director, Cesc Gay is best known for films such as Nico and Dani, In the City, FictionV.O.S and A Pistol in Each Hand. For this, his first theatrical project, he has taken inspiration from his upstairs neighbours.
