‘Angels in America’

'Angels in America': a two-part play by Tony Kushner

Teatre Lliure is staging both parts of the play to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Broadway premiere.

Tony Kushner is one of the most prolific playwrights and scriptwriters working in the US today and his canon includes titles like 'Munich', 'Lincoln' and 'Angels in America'. The latter work was written and can be represented in two parts: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika and has been made into a mini-series on HBO and an opera by Peter Eövös. Twenty-five years have now passed since the Broadway premiere of the first part and to mark that milestone, Kompyia Lliure is staging a Catalan language production of the play, directed by David Selvas, featuring Pere Arquillué and Joan Amargós. This complex play examining the realities of gay life and AIDS in Reagan-era America was written for eight actors, each of whom have to play two or more different roles, including characters of the opposite gender.

The play is written for eight actors, each of whom plays two or more roles. It can be seen from 25 October to 25 November at Teatre Lliure.
