Catalan Book Week celebrates its 32nd edition

From the 5th to the 14th of September the Avinguda de la Catedral will be transformed into Book Town, with more than a hundred exhibitors and a multitude of activities

For yet another year and for ten days running the Avinguda de la Catedral will be given over to books for the 32nd edition of Catalan Book Week. This year, the characteristic wooden stalls laid out along the esplanade will host a total of 105 exhibitors including 85 publishers, 17 libraries, the Institute of Catalan Letters, the Government of Andorra and this year’s newcomer, the iQuiosc.cat, a 100m2 structure housing samples of more than 300 magazines published in Catalan.

Organised by the Catalan Publishers Association in collaboration with a number of other organisations, Catalan Book Week is an annual event designed to acquaint visitors with the work of the various agents involved in the publication of books and magazines in Catalan.

The five stages that will be erected along the esplanade will play host to nearly 250 activities, including, among others, conferences, presentations, recitals and guided tours, many of which this year will focus on the tercentenary celebrations and will include a tribute to Joan Vinyoli. Other novelties this year include the presence of two international authors, Alaa al Aswani and Peter Terrin, who will make appearances on the evening of Monday the 8th of September. On Friday the 12th at 7.30 pm, Carme Riera will be presented with the Premi Trajectòria, an award presented by Catalan literary and publishing associations in recognition of a career dedicated to Catalan culture.

Catalan Book Week will take place on the Avinguda de la Catedral from Friday the 5th of September, beginning at 5 pm, to Sunday the 14th of September at 3 pm and stalls will open from 10.30 am to 9 pm. Entry is free and more information is available on the Setmana del Llibre en Català website.
