As part of the ongoing Mans Unides campaign against hunger the legendary gospel choir will offer a concert in the Santa Maria del Pi Basilica on the 6th of February
As part of their ongoing campaign against hunger, Spanish NGO Mans Unides has organised a benefit concert in Barcelona in which the Carlit Gospel Choir will offer a repertoire of gospel hits in the emblematic basilica of Santa Maria del Pi.
Led by Anna Roqué and Jordi Gaig, the choral group has been gracing stages with their particular brand of spirituality, energy and authenticity for more than 25 years and is the largest gospel choir in the Spanish peninsula with more than 100 singers.
The choir has dedicated its talents to charity events on numerous occasions and this is not the first time that Mans Unides and the Carlit Gospel Choir have collaborated. In 2013, for example, their performance in parish church of Our Lady of the Pillar in Barcelona was attended by more than 400 people. This upcoming performance forms part of the ongoing Manos Unidas campaign against hunger.
Gospel music as we know it today began in the 1930s and combines Christian texts with rhythms originally linked to blues and soul music. While it originated in the United States of America, the worldwide popularity of gospel has increased over the decades.
