'Cambuyón': percussive urban dance

Enlace SC, a dance company created by people from the Canary Islands and Catalonia, premiered Cambuyón, a co-production by the Tenerife Auditorium and L'Estruch de Sabadell. Since that time, the show has travelled all over the world, from Edinburgh to New York, and has met with great acclaim from public and critics alike. You will have the opportunity to see it now in Barcelona, at Sala Barts, from 8 to 11 September. There will only be five performances: one a day and two on Saturday 10.

Cambuyón is a performance that incorporates different dance genres, including tap-dance, hip hop and body percussion, as well as on-stage singers and musicians – all working to create a stage show that combines visual presence with furious rhythms. The seven performers, under the artistic direction of  Jep Meléndez, embark on a journey that takes them from Africa to Ireland, Latin America and the United States before finishing in a “global” location that could be anywhere in the contemporary world. It’s a journey around the world and through music that you can accompany them on at Sala Barts.
