Soul, blues and reggae in the tenth anniversary of this festival at Farinera del Clot and a growing number of venues.
When James Brown first cried out, ‘Say it Loud’ in the mid-60s, he reflected the growing pride of black people in America and the richness of their musical traditions. For the last ten years, Barcelona's Say It Loud has brought a mixture of black music styles to Barcelona, mostly to La Farinera del Clot and Ateneu Popular de Nou Barris. This year, the festival is spreading to new venues, including Fabra i Coats and Ateneu Harmonia, which, together with Cinemes Girona and the Pebre Negre bookshop, will host film screenings, debates, reading circles and black dance workshops from 19 to 31 October.
This year's programme features six main performances. The first is scheduled for 20 October and features Canadian reggae outfit Nomadic Massive, followed the next day by Pad Anthony, a contemporary icon in his native Jamaica. The foloowing weekend sees gigs by Jungle Fire, The Bong Hop meets India Gongora and The Penguins, with fresh does of reggae and African music. Bringing things to an end on 31 October is the New Orleans sounds of Tank and The Bangas.
