A behind-the-scenes peek at artistic creation inspires Tallers Oberts Barcelona 2015

The series of artists’ workshops open days begins on the 14th of May with the fugacious exhibition “Síntesis 90” and, among other novelties, will include areas of the MACBA and the MNAC that have not previously been open to visitors

For more than twenty years now, L’A-FAD, the association of artists and artisans that is part of FAD (Association for the Promotion of Art and Design) has been organising Tallers Oberts, or Open Workshops, throughout Barcelona. The aim of the initiative, in which various artists’ workshops throughout the city are opened to the public, is to bring art, craftsmanship and the work of Barcelona’s creators closer to the people in an effort to both make culture accessible to all and, simultaneously, to expand the city’s creative and artistic network.

The 2015 edition of the Open Workshops will kick off on the 14th of May with the fleeting exhibition Síntesis 90, an exhibition which, for the first time, will present a selection of works by two artists for a period of just one and a half hours. In the event, which will be held free of charge in the Disseny Hub Barcelona beginning at 8 pm, the two invited artists will offer live ‘performatic’ demonstrations in an attempt to reveal their working methods to those present.

The open workshops will take place over the weekends of the 15th to the 17th of May in Sarrià and Gràcia, and the 22nd to the 24th in Ciutat Vella and Poble-sec. Before attending, visitors are advised to consult the Tallers Oberts website, where they will be able to download maps of the district in question. Each district will also have its own information point: Casa Orlandai, in Sarrià, Untitled BCN, in Gràcia, the Convent dels Àngels, in Ciutat Vella, and the El Sortidor Civic Centre, in Poble-sec.

The principal novelty of this edition is what is called Entre/Tallers, the difference being that, in addition to the artists’ workshops opening to the public at the weekends, this year there will also be a series of programmed activities during the week. This initiative has been made possible with the collaboration of major museums and institutions that have expressed a desire to reveal their innermost workings, such as restoration workshops and stored collections, and includes the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the MACBA, the Miró Foundation, the Picasso Museum, the Sagrada Família, the TNC and the Fàbrica Lehmann.

An Instagram photography competition has also been organised and those wishing to participate need only follow the A-FAD profile (@afad_asociacio) and upload their photographs of the Tallers Oberts using the hashtag #Tallersoberts2015.
