Barris en Dansa (Barris in Dance), in the SAT

On the 22nd of November Espai Dansat! will host a one-off function entitled “Inakibú”, with 200 participants

Over recent months four centres in Barcelona have been hosting weekly meetings in which participants of all ages and backgrounds have been developing and rehearsing a dance performance entitled Inakibú, a fictitious word meaning “little ray of hope”. La Caldera, in Gràcia, El Graner in La Marina, Can Felipa in Poblenou and the Centre Cívic Barceloneta have now combined talents to offer the end result of the rehearsals, a unique performance interpreted by almost 200 people which will take place on the 22nd of November in the Sant Andreu Teatre (SAT).

The project is entitled “Barris en Dansa” and is led by the dance company Iliacán, founded in 1992 by Álvaro de la Peña. The Basque-born choreographer, founding partner of La Caldera, boasts an extensive career in the world of dance and has created more than twenty large and medium format performances with Iliacán. In the 2012 edition of the APDC (Professional Dance Association of Catalonia) Dansacat Awards he was a finalist in the “Dance and society” category with his presentation Pobles en Dansa, doubtless a predecessor of Barris en Dansa.

Inakibú is a vibrant attempt to transmit the ideas of participation and collective creation that the concept of the performance itself signifies. In addition to the night of the 22nd of November in the SAT, the performance can also be seen in other locations over the coming months - on the 29th and 30th of November in Can Felipa, the 1st of December in La Fontana, Gràcia, the 14th and 15th of December in the Centre Cívic Barceloneta and, finally, on the 12th of January in the Mercat de les Flors.
