The Barribrossa Festival celebrates the multifaceted genius of Joan Brossa

From the 7th to the 14th of May, the Ciutat Vella district will host theatre, magic and circus performances

Year after year, the Barribrossa Festival has consolidated its identity as a cycle of activities revolving around the figure of Joan Brossa and his extensive creative universe. And this year is set to be extra special thanks to a bumper crop of activities scheduled to take place in more venues that ever before, including La Seca-Espai Brossa, the Picasso Museum, MACBA, CCCB, civic centres such as Parc Sandaru and the Convent of Sant Agustí, as well as public spaces like Plaça de Santa Maria del Mar and Carrer Comerç.

Joan Brossa was a major figure in Catalan avant-garde art and the leader of the Dau al set movement. The festival, while basically devoted to him, will also reflect other important occasions such as the 700th anniversary of the death of  Ramon Llull and the centenary of the Dada movement, with a tribute to Cabaret Voltaire at La Seca- Espai Brossa.

Other festival highlights include Alone. Història d'un nàufrag by Circ Companyia Sebas (7 May); circus with Mairuta by Los Galindos (7 May), the multidisciplinary spectacle Casagemas by Nozomi 700 Teatre (13 May), humour with Mrs. Brownie by Nu (14 May); and Historia de Alicia a través del espejo by Companyia Hand Made Theatre (14 May).
