Barnart, an app that connects artists and users, wins Apps&Cultura

The Apps&Cultura Awards have selected Barnart as both Best App and winner of the Public Award, while Festook, an intelligent system for recommending concerts, received the Most Innovative Concept Award

The Apps&Cultura  Best App Award has been conferred on the project Barnart, an online platform and Android app designed to connect independent artists and users developed by Àngel Gómez, Oriol Tendero and Juan Esporrin. The project also received the award for the most popular app among the public. The Festook  project, an intelligent system for recommending concerts in which users list their favourite bands and the app constructs personalised schedules according to their profile, received the Most Innovative Concept Award.

The Apps&Cultura Awards are organised by the Direcció de Creativitat i Innovació de l’Institut de la Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) , with the support of AppCircus, in an attempt to promote culture via mobile phones. The winning app, Barnart, received a prize of 6000 euros plus a nomination for the Mobile Premier Awards, 2015, in addition to 500 euros for the Public Award. Festook received 2000 euros.

The jury were unanimous in their choice of Barnart as “...it directly connects creators and the general public at any given moment and makes the best of mobile phone functionalities, while possessing a scalable business model that is linked to the user experience”. Festook, the winner of the Most Innovative Concept Award, is an intelligent system for recommending concerts that seeks to revolutionise the festival-going experience. The jury were also unanimous in their selection of Festook as it “...provides a response to an information need and uses an innovative system of recommendations”, and, “both corresponds perfectly with Barcelona’s festival-going culture and is genuinely mobile”.

Both winners will go through to the second phase of the project, in which Apps&Cultura will initiate its acceleration process with the participation of some of the city’s most important players in the innovation and entrepreneurship fields, who will support them in the development of the business aspects of their projects. Another app selected for incorporation into the acceleration process is Coolturer, which allows users to receive notification of, find information on, and participate in any cultural event taking place in the city.
